Thomashoeve: Round-the-clock support, structure and compassionate care

Welcome to Thomashoeve

The Thomashuis concept has been around for almost 25 years. As our residents grow older, they may require increasingly specialised care and support, meaning that a Thomashuis may no longer be able to fully meet their needs.

With Thomashoeve, we are developing a new, small-scale residential care concept for ageing residents with intellectual disabilities. A safe, homely environment offering 24-hour care, a structured daily routine and familiar caregivers, enabling residents to continue living with dignity, comfort and a sense of familiarity as they grow older.

Why a new care concept?

With 119 Thomashuis homes across the Netherlands, and four in Belgium, we are seeing a growing trend: more residents are developing physical health problems as they age, sometimes accompanied by changes in behaviour. As a result, there is an increasing need for additional care and support, both during the day and at night.

Thomashuis homes and their staff are not equipped to provide this level of care. For example, some properties lack lifts or wheelchair accessibility, while staff may not have the specialised medical training required.

Looking ahead, we expect a growing number of residents to develop more complex care needs. If we assume that 30% of residents over the age of 50 will eventually require more intensive care than a Thomashuis can provide, approximately 140 people will need a more suitable place to live.

Based on this projection, we estimate that at least eight Thomashoeve locations will be needed in the near future.
